Jordan and Israel Project
June to August 2008 |
Nature of Project: Participants will be involved in two weeks of touring and serving at a couple of camps in Jordan. Some participants will serve at a camp conducted at the YMWA Center for Special Education. Other participants will serve at a camp in southern Jordan in the village of Al Rajif working with a kindergarten founded by the Amman Baccalaureate School. The participants will be in Jordan from June 17 to July 1. After serving in Jordan, participants will tour Israel and serve on an archaeological dig at Megiddo, sponsored by Tel Aviv University in Israel. Participants will be in Israel from July 1 until July 31, after which they will return to Jordan for their return flight home—returning on Aug. 3.
Goals of Youth Corps Involvement: The United Youth Corps is designed to help motivated and desirous young adults connect with the work of the Church through service. This dimension of leadership will be awakened and directed toward the vision of the coming Kingdom of God in which Christians will help rebuild the waste places of the earth and assist God in serving humanity. To that end, all participants should understand that their involvement in this project should lead them 1) to understand the vision of and need for the Kingdom of God, 2) to experience and live the vision of the Kingdom, 3) to identify with and participate in the “Work of the Church,” and 4) to understand that by such participation, they will have become a part of something bigger than themselves. All Youth Corps participants will take part in pretrip teleconferences and postproject discussions of these outcomes.
