To the Young Adults of UCG...

Do you want to make a positive difference in the world? Do you want to live the Christian principle of serving your brethren in the Church and setting an example of service for other people in the world? Do you want to experience the enriching education and adventure of international travel? Would you like to do all these things at the same time? If so, the United Youth Corps might be for you.

The United Youth Corps program offers opportunities for service, leadership training and travel for our young adults in the Church. This is the 11th year of offering United Youth Corps opportunities, and to date we have had 94 young adults who have participated in 28 projects in nine countries.

It should be noted that all applicants for United Youth Corps projects realize the importance of setting an example as representatives of the United Church of God while participating in a project. Commitment to working with the project manager and other volunteers is paramount to accomplishing our stated outcomes and goals of United Youth Corps. International travel in developing countries may simply not be for everyone. Also, living in occasionally Spartan conditions with limited resources can be a challenge that some may find difficult. All applicants are encouraged to review and consider the mission statement and outcomes of United Youth Corps on the Web site prior to applying.

We are pleased and excited to announce we are now accepting applications for this year’s programs in:

United Youth Corps international projects may not be for everyone; however, if you think one might be for you, please see the fact sheets giving information on the various projects offered this year. Fact sheets are available from your pastor TODAY. You may also view and download fact sheets for any of the projects by visiting the United Youth Corps Web site at http://www.ucgyouthcorps.org.

Application: We ask that ALL seriously interested applicants access the PDF application, which can be completed online, at the www.ucgyouthcorps.org Web site. After completing the application online and printing it out, you can do one of two things:
1) Sign the application in all appropriate areas, include your picture, then SCAN and e-mail to Mr. Doug Horchak at . OR
2) Sign the application in all appropriate areas, include your picture and mail to address on the application.

Scholarship Subsidy: It should be noted that again this year United Youth Corps is offering to scholarship a portion of the airfare cost of ALL accepted United Youth Corps applicants. This is a financial commitment that United Church of God is making to this education and service program for our qualified young adults. In most cases, airfares vary from $1,700 to $2,300 round-trip to most locations in Africa. With current economic conditions being what they are, all applicants should understand that these airfare costs could rise some. That said, those Youth Corps applicants accepted will receive up to $850 scholarship to offset the total cost of the airfare.

NOTE: Deadlines for applications are Jan. 15 for the project in Nigeria, Feb. 15 for the projects in Ghana and Zambia, April 1 for the project in Jordan and June 30 for the project in Kenya. We encourage all of you to take the chance to find out more about how you can make a positive difference in the Church and in the world while experiencing unique international adventures. You can do all this by participating in the United Youth Corps!

It is strongly recommended that as an interested applicant, you discuss your desire and preparedness to serve in one of these projects with your local pastor. United Youth Corps is not a Church-sponsored travel program. While international travel is central to the experience, it is a chance to refocus one’s dedication to serving God, His people and the world in the broader context of the Christian calling. We desire to have applicants who are committed to those values and goals.

Douglas Horchak and David Baker
