2010 Jordan RHSC Fact Sheet
Annual Researcher Program at the Jordan Regional Human Security Center (RHSC)
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan - Fall 2010 to Summer 2011
Nature of the RHSC Project: The Regional Human Security Centre is a research institution located in the 85-acre picturesque Royal Scientific Society in Amman, Jordan. It operates under the auspices of His Royal Highness Prince Hassan Bin Talal, and its central goal is to mainstream the concept of “Human Security” in the West Asia and North Africa region. Some of the objectives of the RHSC are as follows:
- To raise the level of awareness of humanitarian and human security issues amongst academics, practitioners and policy makers at the national, regional and international level.
- To build a strong and multidisciplinary in-house team of academic researchers capable of producing high-level research that develops the theories of human security while advancing practical solutions to the humanitarian crises in the region.
- To serve as a forum where stakeholders from across West Asia can come together to work in a collegiate atmosphere to address wide-ranging and threatening human security issues.
- To build a collection of knowledge that allows stakeholders from across the region to draw on the work of the RHSC and to develop their own research strategies, which, in turn, could be funded by the RHSC Research Trust Fund
Nature of Project: One qualified volunteer researcher will be chosen to serve at the Regional Human Security Centre during the 2009-2010 year. The volunteer will conduct high-level research projects consistent with the spirit of their chosen research cluster, as well as publish quality research in RHSC publications and other outlets. Other possible duties might include contributing to the RHSC’s newsletter; writing official reports of center activities; participating as a trainer or expert in appropriate training sessions organized by the RHSC as well as in other conferences, workshops and policy forums; and assisting in development and editing of official RHSC correspondence.
In this unique setting, the volunteer should desire to enthusiastically represent God’s work in an Arab-Muslim culture where the highest level of moral behavior is required. The areas and disciplines within the RHSC’s needs will be determined once the volunteers are chosen.
Goals of Youth Corps Involvement: The United Youth Corps is designed to help motivated and desirous young adults connect with the work of the Church through service. This dimension of leadership will be awakened and directed toward the vision of the coming Kingdom of God in which Christians will be helping rebuild the waste places of the earth and assisting God in serving humanity. To that end, all participants should understand that their involvement in this project should lead them 1) to understand the vision of and need for the Kingdom of God, 2) to experience and live the vision of the Kingdom, 3) to identify with and participate in the “Work of the Church” and 4) to understand that by such participation, they will have become a part of something bigger than themselves. All Youth Corps participants will take part in pretrip teleconferences and postproject discussions of these outcomes.
